In Singapore, retrenchment rose in the first quarter. The report said about 2,274 persons were laid off from work compared to 1,966 in the previous quarter. Based on the preliminary estimates, the manufacturing sector had the highest retrenchment due to softness in electronics sector, with about 1,500 persons being laid off from work. This was followed by the service sector, with a total of 500 persons being retrenched.
